Study on Existing Bus Stop Facilities in Sha Tin (July 17, 2015)

Centre for the Advancement of Social Sciences Research (CASR) was commissioned by the Sha Tin District Council (Working Group on Development of Major Transport Infrastructures in Sha Tin District) to conduct a study regarding the bus stop facilities in Sha Tin. The site survey and face-to-face interviews were conducted in 26 major Sha Tin bus stops, including the Public Transport Interchanges, Tunnel Interchanges and Bus Terminals. The study reveals various problems of the bus stops, such as the ageing facilities and inadequate space. Passengers are thus subjected to danger and chaos. CASR also recommends various solutions and ideas to the government, franchised bus operators and related stakeholders to upgrade the existing bus stop facilities. An exchange session was held in July. CASR members, district councilors and the government representatives from the Transport Department, Housing Department and Lands Department and Sha Tin resident representatives had opportunities to exchange their views and ideas on the topic of concern.
