Hong Kong College of Cardiology "The Impact of the COVID-19 Epidemic on Patients with Cardiovascular Diseases or High-Risk Individuals" (September 27, 2022)

"The Impact of the COVID-19 Epidemic on Patients with Cardiovascular Diseases or High-Risk Individuals Press Conference" was held by the Hong Kong College of Cardiology on 27 September 2022.

A survey was conducted to investigate the impact of the covid-19 epidemic on patients with cardiovascular diseases or high-risk individuals. 266 patients, who seek consultation or follow-up consultation at cardiology specialists, completed the questionnaire. Hong Kong College of Cardiology (HKCC) commissioned the Centre for the Advancement of Social Sciences Research (CASR) of Hong Kong Baptist University to analyze the survey data collected.

The survey found that during the epidemic, about 10% of patients said that their condition of "three-hypers" worsened and control on risk factor was not as satisfactory. Among them, 42% reported an increase in emotional stress. 32% suffered worsen sleep quality, while 30% had a deterioration of overall living habits. And 29% of the respondents said they gained weight during the epidemic.

In general, the survey revealed that the exercising time of the interviewed patients or high-risk individuals did not meet the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO). Among them, 31% did less exercise during the epidemic, and only 20% met the hours recommended by the WHO. As many as 26% of the respondents did not do any aerobic exercise.
